<p>The present invention relates to the protection of a shoreline by a wave defence barrier, in order to reduce or eliminate the effects of wave erosion. The wave defence barrier 1 protecting a shoreline feature such as an eroding cliff 12 against the force of wave action, comprises a series of posts 6 upstanding from a base of the shoreline 2, and a plurality of ring-shaped surrounds 8, each having an open centre 10. The surrounds are preferably used tyres 8, or concrete rings. Each post extends through the open centre of at least one surround so that each of the surrounds is held to a corresponding post to form an individual wave barrier on the base of the shoreline. At least some of the surrounds of adjacent individual wave barriers 9 are separated by a gap 18 which serves in use to reduce the force of a wave passing between adjacent individual barriers. The wave defence barrier therefore protects a shoreline against the force of wave action.</p> |
