Tracking that is further chronologically consistent is possible even in an instable state in which, in addition to overlap and division of a target region indicating a tracking object, temporal disappearance and erroneous detection of the target region occur randomly, and credibility of a result of detection is insufficient. Provisional tracking is performed for a plurality of times by associating target regions between a plurality of target images positioned earlier or later in a time series by a provisional-tracking processing unit 102 using a feature quantity of a target region calculated by a feature-quantity calculating unit 101, and a final tracking processing unit 103 acquires a final tracking result that is chronologically constant according to, for example, the concept of majority decision, based on a plurality of results of the provisional tracking. Therefore, further chronologically consistent tracking of the target region becomes possible even in an instable state in which, in addition to overlap and division of a target region indicating a tracking object, temporal disappearance and erroneous detection of the target region occur randomly, and credibility of a result of detection is insufficient. |
