An information processing apparatus, an information processing method, and a color separation table generation method are provided to enable user who has little technical knowledge of the acceptable colorant amount of a print medium to easily and efficiently determine an appropriate acceptable colorant amount of a print medium whose profile is not provided. An information processing method includes the following steps of: acquiring the attribute of an printing medium; acquiring reference information corresponding to the attribute of the printing medium; and outputting a plurality of images having different total color material quantities on the basis of the reference information. An information processing apparatus for implementing the information processing method comprises the followings. A CPU (Central Processing Unit)(303) is capable of controlling operations of various blocks and executing a program stored inside. A ROM(Read-Only Memory)(304) stores in advance necessary image processing and the like. A RAM(Random-Access Memory)(305) temporarily stores a program and image data to be processed by the CPU. A hard disk(308) stores a program and image data to be transferred to the RAM or the like and processed image data. Data can be read from or written to a compact disc(310), which is one of external storage media, such as a CD-Recordable, a CD-Rewritable, or a digital versatile disc. When a program for image editing, printer information, or the like is stored in the compact disc or the like, the program or information is installed into the hard disk and transferred to the RAM according to need.
