<p>Disclosed is a method for fabricating an optical fiber preform with low OH concentration using MCVD. The method of the present invention includes a first process of conducting the following steps repeatedly: injecting a soot-forming gas and a dehydrating gas into a quartz tube, and moving a heat source in a process-advancing direction so that soot generated in a first temperature distribution region is accumulated as a soot layer and dehydrated in a second temperature distribution region, and sintered in a first temperature distribution region; and a second process of conducting the following steps repeatedly: injecting a soot-forming gas and a dehydrating gas into a quartz tube, and moving a heat source in a process-advancing direction so that the soot generated in a first temperature distribution region is accumulated as the soot layer and primarily dehydrated in a second temperature distribution region, and secondarily dehydrated in a third temperature distribution region; and moving a heat source in a process-advancing direction to sinter the soot layer.</p> |
