An interface card, a network printer having the same, and a control method thereof are provided to reduce power consumption in a sleep mode, and reduce time needed for unnecessarily changing the sleep mode into an active mode and loading active mode firmware by processing/responding to packet data in the sleep mode. An interface card includes a power supply unit(220), a non-volatile memory(230) storing active and sleep mode firmware, a small volatile memory(218) receiving power in a sleep mode, a transceiver(212) transceiving data with an external device, and a controller(216). The controller stores the sleep mode firmware stored in the non-volatile memory to the small volatile memory to switch the interface card to the sleep mode when the transceiver receives no packet data in the sleep mode for predetermined time. The sleep mode firmware includes a packet analyzing module analyzing whether the received packet data has a protocol to be processed in the sleep mode, a protocol module processing the packet data in the sleep mode, and an active mode switching module processing the packet data in the active mode. |
