MOBILE TERMINAL AND METHOD FOR ASSIGNING IP ADDRESS IN WIRELESS NETWORK

A portable terminal for allocating an IP address in a wireless network and a method thereof are provided to prevent a collision between automatically created IPv6 addresses by automatically configuring an IPv6 address if an access router transmits a message indicating that it is a management access router, executing DAD(Duplicate Address Detection) for the IPv6 address through the access router, and using the IPv6 legitimately. An access router creates a notification message to announce that it is a specific access router to execute DAD for IP addresses, and transmits the created message to a portable terminal(S210). Receiving the notification message, the portable terminal automatically configures an IP address(S220). The portable terminal creates a DAD request message containing the automatically configured IP address and transmits the created DAD request message to the access router(S230). Based on the DAD request message transmitted from the portable terminal, the access router executes DAD for the IP address contained in the DAD request message(S240). In case that a response message is received from the access router(S250), the portable terminal confirms a DAD request result and allocates the IP address legitimately according to the confirmed result(S260).
