[Also in Group VIII] A carton is formed by folding a blank constituted of a layer of foamed compressible plastic material 24 with sheets of paper 17, 19 secured to its inner and outer surfaces, (see Group VIII) the corners of the carton being formed along lines at which the foamed material is permanently compressed to be thinner and denser than in other areas. Preferably the materials used are kraft sheets and polystyrene bonded with a water mixture of a latex-type adhesive or other adhesive non- solvent for polystyrene. Polyvsnyl chloride may be used for the foamed plastic. The carton is stiff, cushions shocks and is tougher where compressed e.g. its corners.</p> |
