An apparatus and a method of cutting off harmful gases entering a passenger compartment of a vehicle is provided to prevent accidents due to presence of harmful gases in a passenger compartment by opening a window to remove harmful gases from the compartment to outside after sensing and alerting presence of harmful gases such as exhaust gas flowed into the compartment or gasified fuel leaked from a fuel line. An apparatus and a method of blocking harmful gases entering a passenger compartment of a vehicle includes a sensing unit(100) for detecting presence of harmful gases, pressure of gas, and speed of vehicle; an indicator unit(110) for providing information on detection of gas and switching of fuel from a gaseous fuel to a liquid fuel with an audible or a visual alarm; a window driver(120) for operating a window to remove harmful gases inside the passenger compartment; a controller(140) for outputting signals to the indicator unit after receiving signals from the sensing unit, for outputting signals to the window driver to remove harmful gas from the passenger compartment, and for outputting signals to fuel switching unit to cut-off the fuel supply; and a fuel switching unit(130) for switching gaseous fuel a liquid fuel upon receiving a fuel cut-off signal from the controller.
