An OLED device and a driving method thereof are provided to control the brightness of a pixel unit by adjusting the lightness or illumination period of an organic light emitting diode according to ambient brightness. An OLED(Organic Light Emitting Display) device includes an organic light emitting diode(EL), scan and data lines(Sn,Dm), driving, scan, and illumination control transistors(M1,M2,M3), an illumination control line(En), an optic sensor, and a signal controller. The scan and data lines supply scan and data signals to the organic light emitting diode, respectively. The driving and scan transistors are connected to the organic light emitting diode and data line, respectively. The illumination control transistor is connected between the organic light emitting diode and driving transistor. The illumination control line applies an illumination control signal to the illumination control transistor. The signal controller is connected between the optic sensor and illumination control line, and the data line.
