A display device for optical communication is provided to form a light receiving unit for sensing light within a display panel, thereby improving the receipt sensitivity and the response speed. A display device for optical communication comprises a display panel for displaying an image, a light receiving unit, which is formed in the display panel, and a controller. The light receiving unit receives light including data to output photo-current corresponding to the received light. The controller decodes the outputted photo-current into the data. The display panel includes an array substrate having a plurality of pixels and a color filter substrate having color filters and a black matrix.
