A method and an apparatus for providing a realtime VOD service are provided to enable many users to view the same VOD contents at the same time and perform voice chatting with other users in real time. A method for providing a realtime VOD(Video On Demand) service comprises the following steps of: receiving a service request of arbitrary VOD contents from a terminal(10-1) connected through a communication network(30)(311~313); setting a session with a VOD server(70) for transmission of the VOD contents(315~321); transmitting an invitation message to at least one or other terminals invited and requested from the terminal through the communication network(330); and transmitting streaming data of the VOD contents received from the VOD server to the terminal and other terminals(363). |
