An image reproducing apparatus for displaying OSD through an external display device and a method thereof are provided to prevent overlap between an image and the OSD by transmitting the OSD, overlappedly displayed on the image, to an external display device through wireless communication and displaying the OSD, so that a user can view the image without interruption by the display of the OSD. An image reproducing apparatus(100) comprises an image signal input unit(110), an image signal processing unit(120), an operation unit(130), an OSD(On Screen Display) unit(140), a storage unit(150), a display unit(160), a control unit(170), and a transceiving unit(180). The control unit controls the general operation of the image reproducing apparatus according to user's instruction inputted through the operation unit by using a prestored control program and displays OSD to be displayed by transmitting the OSD through the transceiving unit, and controls the image reproducing apparatus by receiving the selection instruction of the user for the displayed OSD. The transceiving unit transmits the OSD to an external display device(200), receives the selection instruction of the external display device, and transmits the selection instruction to the control unit by interactive communication.
