A contact start-stop hard disk drive and a method of operating the same are provided to preclude a slider from being separated from a disk not in operation by contact between a load tap and a tap lamp, thereby increasing non-operating shock property. A contact start-stop hard disk drive comprises a spindle motor, at least one disk(12), a disk clamp, at least one head gimbal assembly, and at least one tap lamp(312). The head gimbal assembly includes a flexure finger(20) combined with a slider(90), a load beam(74) combined with the flexure finger, and a load tap(78) extended from the load beam. The load tap and the tap lamp make contact with each other in a non-operating mode to contact the slider with the surface of the internal diameter of the disk.
