An apparatus and a method for detecting an overloaded vehicle are provided to inform the overloaded information to a user by identifying illegal vehicles using an RFID system. An apparatus of detecting an overloaded vehicle using an RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) system includes a pressure sensor, an illegal determiner, an RFID reader, an overload/overspeed detector(20), and an informing unit(50). The pressure sensor, which is installed in roads, detects the overload and overspeed of a vehicle. The illegal determiner determines whether the overload and overspeed of the vehicle are detected using the pressure sensor. The RFID reader reads an RFID tag of a vehicle when the overload and overspeed of the vehicle are detected. The overload/speed detector, which includes an RFID information transmitter for transmitting RFID tag information, receives and provides the RFID tag information. The informing unit receives and determines the RFID tag information from the overload/speed detector, and informs the determined information to the owner of the vehicle. |
