An apparatus and a method for creating play list of a music data play apparatus are provided to supply a pre-listening function for the music data to a user by checking whether a predetermined pre-listening play time exists and setting the predetermined pre-listening play time if necessary. A predetermined pre-listening play time is checked, and the predetermined pre-listening play time is set if a pre-listening play time does not exist(202,204,206). The specific music data is selected according to the key input by a user(212). The play position corresponding to the pre-listening play position is selected from the play time of the music data(214). The selected music data is played(216). The selected music data is added to the play list according to selection by the user(220,222).
