PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION METHOD

A personal identification method is provided to construct a security system in an environment, such as a medical treatment site, requiring a contactless mode by authenticating a user precisely with a vein pattern, which is obtained by capturing light passing a finger, even though a vein pattern image is not clear and includes deviation. Light is projected to fingers and an image of the light passing the fingers is extracted. The image is identified by matching a part of the image with the registered image in a local matching mode. A vein is traced in the image by picking out loci of different positions(208). The vein pattern is statistically emphasized by overlapping the veins of the image. The local matching mode is processed by dividing a finger image and the registered image into a plurality of sub-regions, and obtaining location information of the matched sub-regions(214).
