M : metal of the inorganic phase; Z : heteroelement e.g. P (preferred) or Si, or organic precursor, preferably L 3 -yR y or L 4 -xR x; L : alkoxy or OR1; R1 : H, CH 3, ethyl, alkyl or halo; x, y : 1-2; and R : organic group e.g. alkyl, aryl, alkoxy or aryl-alkyl. An independent claim is included for a hydrorefining or hydroconversion of a hydrocarbon charge using the catalyst comprising hydro-treating the charge at 180-450[deg]C under 0.5-30 MPa and at a volume space velocity 0.1-20 hour ->1 in the presence of hydrogen at a volume ratio of hydrogen:liquid charge is 50:2000. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# The catalyst is useful in hydrorefining or hydroconversion of a hydrocarbon charge e.g. diesel oil and gasoline (claimed), particularly to reduce sulfur content. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The catalyst has improved catalytic activity and selectivity. #CMT#INORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Catalyst: The catalyst further comprises a doping element e.g. phosphorus, silicon, boron (all 3 preferred) or halogens of group VIIA elements. The catalyst comprises the group VIB metal e.g. molybdenum or tungsten (preferred); and the group VIII metal e.g. nickel or cobalt. The catalyst comprises (in wt.%): molybdenum or tungsten oxide (0.01-40); cobalt or nickel oxide (0.01-25); and phosphorous pentoxide (0.01-15). The inorganic phase is made up of alumina and/or silica or a mixture alumina or chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, phosphorus, fluorine or boron. The inorganic phase further comprises: a compound e.g. (non)crystalline aluminosilicate molecular sieves; and a clay of 2:1 dioctadric phyllosilicate or 3:1 trioctadric phyllosilicate type. #CMT#ORGANIC CHEMISTRY : #/CMT# Preferred Process: The process is carried out at 250-440[deg]C under 1-18 MPa and at a volume space velocity of 0.2-5 hour ->1. Preferred Components: The hydrocarbon charge is atmospheric distillate, gasoline, diesel oil, vacuum distillate, diesel oil resulting from the flash distillation, atmospheric residue, vacuum residue, heavy fuel, oil, wax, paraffin, used oil, de-asphalted residue or crude and/or charge coming from thermal and catalytic conversion processes or a synthetic load resulting from the biomass treatment. #CMT#EXAMPLE : #/CMT# Typical composition comprised (in %): molybdenum oxide (13.3); and cobalt oxide (3.3).
