A mobile terminal for receiving digital broadcasting and a method thereof are provided to control the amount of power consumption by selectively decoding I-frames and P-frames which constitute a video stream in a mobile terminal, thereby offering a power-saving mode in which a user can watch a desired program until the program ends with limited battery capacities. A battery capacity detector(40) detects the currently usable battery capacities. A digital broadcasting receiver(10) receives digital broadcasting. A power consumption DB(70) stores information on power consumption of units necessary for receiving/outputting the digital broadcasting. A controller(30) receives the usable battery capacities, calculates power necessary for receiving/outputting the digital broadcasting, and compares the usable battery capacities with the power. If the battery capacities are smaller than the power, the controller(30) controls power applied to the units according to plural power-saving conditions. |
