A device for inputting numbers in a portable terminal and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to input all numerals through a small number of numerals in the portable terminal, thus the user can input all numerals with the small number of the numerals in the terminal equipped with a miniaturized screen. A display(130) is divided into plural areas in a numeral input mode, and displays numerals corresponding to each area. A controller(100) controls at least one numeral corresponding to touched areas to be displayed if a touch inputting action is generated in at least one area of the displayed areas. If a drag inputting action is generated in at least two areas of the displayed areas, the controller(100) controls a sum of numerals corresponding to a starting area and an ending area of a drag among dragged areas to be displayed.
