COMPOSITION FOR PREVENTING AND TREATING OBESITY-INDUCED DIABETES MELLITUS

A composition comprising an extract of Ginko biloba L. leaves is provided to induce the body weight decrease and triglyceride, increase the insulin resistance and protect pancreatic islet beta cells when administered to a mouse suffering from obesity induced diabetes mellitus, thereby being usefully used for preventing and treating the obesity induced diabetes mellitus. A composition for preventing and treating obesity induced diabetes mellitus comprises an extract of Ginko biloba L. leaves as an effective ingredient, where the ingredient of the Ginko biloba L. leaves extract is flavonoid and the effective amount of the extract is 0.1-500mg/kg/day. The composition further comprises a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent, preservative, solubilizer, emulsifier, supplement or carrier.
