摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image encoding apparatus capable of performing arithmetic encoding of binary data with a smaller buffer capacity, as compared with a conventional image encoding apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The image encoding device is provided with an image encoding portion 10 for encoding image data, a binarizing portion 31 for binarizing encoded data, an intermediate buffer 12, an accumulation amount measuring portion 22 for measuring the amount of data in the intermediate buffer 12, an I_PCM decision portion 21 for comparing a measured data amount with a threshold for each predetermined unit, a buffer input selection portion 11 for accumulating the next binary data in the intermediate buffer 12 when the amount does not exceed the threshold, and accumulating the next I_PCM data in the intermediate buffer 12 when it exceeds the threshold, an arithmetic encoding portion 32 for performing arithmetic encoding of binary data accumulated in the intermediate buffer 12, and an output selection portion 13 for outputting arithmetically encoded data when the arithmetic encoding of the binary data is performed by the encoding portion 32, and outputting I_PCM data when the I_PCM data are accumulated in the intermediate buffer 12. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p>
