<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, high-performance and low-cost optical scanner which can efficiently release heat and can avert deterioration in image quality or the like, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The optical scanner has a sealing means which seals: a light source; an optical defection means which deflects the light emitted from the light source; a drive means which drives the optical defection means; and a drive control means which controls the drive means. The optical scanner also has a support means which supports the light source and the sealing means.
