PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil composition that is inexpensive and can attain reduction in thin-film friction and enhancement of fuel economy. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil composition comprises a base oil having a tetracycloparaffin content of less than about 3 wt.%. The composition further contains, as a sulfur-containing phosphorous compound, a thiophosphate, a dithiophosphate, a sulfur-containing neopentylglycol phosphite and a salt of the sulfur-containing neopentylglycol phosphite. The composition further contains, as a dispersant, at least one from among succinimide, succinimide boride, a Mannich dispersant, a functionalized olefin copolymer and a poly(meth)acrylate copolymer.
