PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of suppressing a show-through caused by an image formed on a backside of a read object face in reading an infrared ray image formed on the read object face of an original. SOLUTION: A backing plate provided to the surface of a backing member 20 for pressing the original on a first platen glass 52A has a characteristic that the reflectance of infrared ray is lower than the reflectance of visible light. In reading a code image (infrared ray image) formed on the original on the first platen glass 52A, when the infrared ray is emitted to the original, the reflection of infrared ray is caused to a read face of the original depending on the presence of the infrared ray image. The infrared ray passing through the read face of the original reaches the backside of the original, the backing plate is provided to the backside, and the infrared ray is absorbed by the image (infrared ray image and black image) formed on the backside of the original or the backing plate. As a result, the reflection amount of the infrared ray from the backside of the original is reduced and the show-through is suppressed as a result of infrared ray reading.
