PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce dispersion of an operation temperature of a thermal fuse in abnormal discharge, and to stop supply of a current before the temperature of a part of a glass tube reaches a high value. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp is provided with: an electrode 6 having a filament 7 and lead wires 8 connected to both ends of the filament 7; the cylindrical glass tube 5 with the electrode 6 arranged therein; and the thermal fuse 12 electrically serially connected to the lead wires 8, and arranged in the vicinity of the electrode 6 on the circumferential surface of the glass tube 5. When a position on the circumferential surface of the glass tube 5 extended from the connection part 11 between the filament 7 and the lead wire 8 in the radial direction of the glass tube 5 is used as a reference position P, the thermal fuse 12 is arranged in a range≤1.5 mm in the longitudinal direction of the glass tube 5 with respect to the reference position P1 when the diameter of the glass tube 5 is≥8 mm.
