An AV system and a method for controlling an AV signal thereof are provided to enable the AV receiver of the AV system processing a signal inputted to an HDMI(High Definition Multimedia Interface) to change the resolution of a DVD player suitable for a DTV(Digital Television) automatically, thereby outputting the speaker sound output of a display and the AV receiver through synchronization between output signals in the DVD player by reproducing the fine sound format. A method for controlling the AV(Audio/Video) signal of an AV system comprises the following steps of: determining a DVD(Digital Video Disk)-audio title by analyzing signals reproduced in a DVD player(310); detecting resolution by referring to the EDID(Extended Display Identification) information of a display device when the reproduced signal is analyzed as the DVD-audio title(320); extracting the resolution and channel information of the DVD-audio title reproduced in the DVD player(324~352); and changing the resolution of the DVD player in a range of the detected resolution of the display device according to the resolution and channel information of the DVD-audio title(370).
