<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the discrimination precision of an object detected from an image. <P>SOLUTION: When a candidate object as the candidate of discrimination is detected from an input image, rough discrimination using a neural network method (that is, the discrimination of whether or not there is possibility that the detected object is a pedestrian as the object of discrimination) is performed. When there is possibility that the object detected from the input image is a pedestrian as the result of rough discrimination, detail discrimination using the neural network method (that is, the discrimination of whether or not the detected object is a pedestrian as the object of discrimination) is performed.
