<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antiseptic/bactericide which enhances the inherent antibacterial power of a 1,2-alkanediol, to provide a cosmetic, a medicament, or a food formulated therewith, and to provide a cosmetic, a medicament, or a food. <P>SOLUTION: The antiseptic/bactericide comprises a 5-10C 1,2-alkanediol, desirably a 1,2-octanediol, and a grape fruit extract, desirably a grape fruit seed extract.
