The device has an additive injection valve for injecting an additive from an injection orifice into an exhaust passage. A catalyser is arranged downstream to the valve to discharge an emission control reaction, where the device supplies the additive from the valve upstream to the catalyst to the exhaust gas. An exhaust gas stream of the exhaust gas is used, so that the emission control reaction is performed at the catalyser. The additive is injected from the injection orifice with reference to the direction running perpendicular to an exhaust gas upstream side.
