An image reproducing apparatus and a method for shortening restart time are provided to control power supply to reduce the delay occurring when a power-off state is switched to a power-on state during a predetermined time. A power supply unit(130) applies electric power to a first module related to process of an image signal and a second module related to display of the image signal. A control unit(160) controls the power supply unit such that power supply to the first module is kept and power supply to the second module is shut off during a predetermine time when a power-off command is inputted, thereby keeping the standby state for restart.
