PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal apparatus capable of favorably performing operations in accordance with functions by a user. SOLUTION: The portable terminal apparatus comprises: a first enclosure 101 having a display unit 104; a second enclosure 102 having a key operation unit 107; a connecting unit 103 for connecting the first enclosure 101 and the second enclosure 102 rotatably between a first state in which the longitudinal direction of the first enclosure 101 and that of the second enclosure 102 are in a same direction and a second state in which the longitudinal direction of the first enclosure 101 and that of the second enclosure 102 intersect almost at right angles, in a condition in which the face having the display unit 104 of the first enclosure 101 and the face having the key operation unit 107 of the second enclosure are directed to almost a same direction, a rotation detecting unit 112 for detecting the second state; and a control unit 109 for initiating a predetermined function when the second state is detected by the rotation detecting unit 112.
