PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion liquid of precious-metal particles, which can be used in an electrophoresis type display device and the like; a production method; and a display method and a display device using the dispersion liquid of the precious-metal particles. SOLUTION: The dispersion liquid of the precious-metal particles includes silicone oil 10, and the precious-metal particles 9 which are dispersed in the silicone oil; and needs to present color development properties in a state of making the precious-metal particles 9 dispersed in the silicone oil. The precious-metal particle preferably has a color development function due to plasmon. Gold, silver and the like are preferable as the precious metal for the particle. The display device has a modulated light layer in which a first electrode 2, a second electrode 4 and the dispersion of the precious-metal particles are enclosed, and a voltage-applying means; and shows the color of the precious-metal particles when the voltage is not applied, because the precious-metal particles are uniformly dispersed, and shows the color of the first substrate 1 when the voltage has been applied, because the precious-metal particles move toward the second electrode side.
