A display apparatus includes a display panel and a backlight which supplies the display panel with light. The backlight unit includes a lighting source; a light converting unit which converts light emitted from the lighting source into uniform light; and a light incidence angle controlling unit which increases an angle of incidence of the light entering the light converting unit.
