In a papermaking process a wet paper web advances sandwiched between two endless belts (10, 11) supported by rollers and forming a nip (N). One or both of the belts are simultaneously washed and steam heated and transfer heat to the paper web, which is dried by a baffle drier (20) immediately after leaving the nip. Further heat is transported into the baffle drying zone by the heated belts. The press section is located under a heat-insulated hood that prevents escape of heat between the press and the baffle drier. The belts are conditioned by a steam-heated drum (12.2) and a suction box (12.3). Also claimed is a commensurate paper or carton drying assembly.
|
