A fastening facility is provided in the cast composite component (1). The facility is an opening (23) in the insert (2), permitting a mechanical fastening (5) to be made. The fastener (5) is e.g. a screw or rivet (of which only the centerline is shown). The opening contains cast material (3). The opening is a clearance opening for the fastener. The cast material thickness in the opening, is no more than twice as thick as the cast material elsewhere on the cast composite component (1). One or more fastening facilities (23) are provided in the area of the insert, especially near its edge. The composite cast component is U-shaped in cross section, the facility being provided in either or both of its limbs. An additional part (4) is held to the composite component, using the facility. It surrounds the component. The insert is steel and/or the cast material is a light metal or alloy. The insert is high strength steel. The cast material is aluminum or aluminum alloy.
