The method involves detecting a quantity i.e. consumption quantity of a medium i.e. water, in a supply system based on ultrasonic signals (13) in a measuring section (1). A portion of another medium provided in the supply system is detected apart from the measurement of quantity of water. The quantity data of water is corrected with the result of the detection of the medium, where the medium is a gas in particular air. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for determining consumption of a medium of a supply system (2) a heat consumption meter (3) a cooling consumption meter.
