PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cruise assist control device and cruise assist control method suppressing temporary interruption of cruise assist control halfway even when an obstacle is detected and then the same obstacle is not detected. SOLUTION: The cruise assist control device 1-1 comprises a front millimeter wave sensor 3 and obstacle detection section 21 for detecting the position of the obstacle existing in the traveling direction of one's own vehicle, a travel support control section 26 for assisting the running of the own vehicle, a collision risk calculation section 22 for calculating the collision risk of the own vehicle with the detected obstacle, namely TTC (time to collision), and a cruise assist control determining section 23 for determining necessity of the travel support control based on the calculated TTC. The travel support control determining section 23 keeps a control-required state for a predetermined holding period T even if it is determined to require control based on the calculated TTC and then determined not to require control based on the calculated TTC.
