It is intended to provide a polyvinyl alcohol-based film for optical uses which has an excellent stretchability and is usable in producing a polarizing membrane showing excellent polarization performance throughout the visible light wavelength range, in particular, at around 460 nm. Namely, a polyvinyl alcohol-based film for optical uses comprising a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin, wherein the polyvinyl alcohol-based resin consists of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin (A) having a 1,2-glycol bond in a side chain alone and the content of the 1,2-glycol bond in the side chain amounts to 0.01 to 6% by mol.
