PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an internal combustion engine, capable of preventing overspeeding of the engine when a load is suddenly reduced. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine includes a cylinder wherein a combustion chamber is formed, devices for metering fuel and combustion air as well as an ignition device for igniting the mixture in the combustion chamber. In the method for operating the internal combustion engine, a control part for controlling the supply of fuel and the ignition of the mixture in the combustion chamber, and the internal combustion engine is so controlled in at least one operating state that the number of combustions is less than the number of engine cycles in the same time span. The operating state is a high rotating speed range wherein the rotating speed lies above the rated rotating speed and below the rotating speed in a cut-off range. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
