PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of editing and managing a navigation database in an efficient and reliable manner that allows for further extensions without any loss of compatibility. SOLUTION: This method of editing and managing data in the navigation database including at least one data file used by application software comprises storing data in at least one data file, implementing at least one format description for at least one data file of the navigation database, and implementing an abstract machine so as to interpret data stored in at least one data file and interpret the data for the application software.
