PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology absorbing shock inputted at the time of collision of a vehicle, and preventing a steering shaft from coming off from a steering column. SOLUTION: In the shock absorbing structure, a shock absorbing structure 100 absorbing shock inputted in the steering shaft 6 comprises a fastening means 20 disposed between a first column pipe 16 and a second column pipe 18, and fastening the first column pipe 16 and the second column pipe 18 so as to move the first column pipe 16 to the second column pipe 18 when force contracting the steering shaft 6 in an axial direction not less than a threshold value is inputted; and a locking portion provided on the first column pipe 16 so as to prevent the first column pipe from coming off from the second column pipe 18 when the steering shaft 6 extends in the axial direction.
