PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the degree of system reliability of a power transmission and distribution system, even when a short-circuit current exceeds the rated breaking current of a circuit breaker and reduce the cost of circuit-breaker replacement. SOLUTION: A short-circuit current reducing system 10 for power transmission and distribution systems is constructed, by providing a power transmission and distribution system with a circuit breaker controlling means 1; a nearest three-phase short circuit accident detecting means 2; a bus bar disconnecting unit 4; and a system interconnection line interrupting unit 3. This system reduces a short circuit current by detecting the condition, under which the short circuit current exceeds the rated breaking current of a load line circuit breaker by the nearest three-phase short circuit accident detecting means 2, and thereafter, carries out control so as to interrupt at least either of the bus bar disconnector 4 and the system interconnection line interrupter 3 by the circuit breaker control means 1.
