PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor in which lowering of output can be suppressed while enhancing durability. SOLUTION: The electric motor comprises an annular stator core, and a coil wound around the stator core. The stator core has an annular yoke, and a plurality of teeth projecting from the inner circumference of the yoke and spaced apart equally in the circumferential direction of the yoke. At a pair of ends of the stator core in the axial direction, a plurality of coil housing groove opening in the axial direction are formed in correspondence with respective teeth. At the corner on the bottom of the coil housing groove, a concave surface is provided in order to prevent concentration of stress due to winding tension of the coil. The coil is wound in layers around each teeth to form a lower layer region A1 where the winding tension is relatively large and an upper layer region B1 where the winding tension is relatively small.
