PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas turbine engine component improved with respect to selection of alloy and the crystal orientation. SOLUTION: A method is provided for designing a first component (240) so as to be associated with second components (242, 244) in a gas turbine by single crystal casting. At least a first local operating stress to the first component (240) has a first direction (522). A crystal orientation in the first component (240) or a physical configuration of the first component (240) is selected in such a manner that the first operating stress subjects the first component (240) to desired engagement with the second components (242, 244) in a second direction (524) by means of a negative Poisson's effect or a high positive Poisson's effect.
