The fastening clip (12) comprises a base piece (15) mounted on the rear face of a trim strip and a catching element (16) attached to the base piece, comprising a clip head (39) designed to collaborate with a "keyhole" opening. The clip comprises a fastening structure (25) with two retaining positions, resulting in two positions for mounting the trim strip on the bodywork: a separated premounted position in which the trim strip is some distance from the bodywork and a locked position in which the trim strip is pressed against the bodywork. The base piece comprises a sealing plate (21) that lies some distance from the bodywork in the premounted separated position and is in contact with this bodywork in the final locked position. This invention is of advantage to the manufacturers of vehicles and of motor vehicle accessories.
