METHOD OF DESCALING METAL WIRE ROD AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

An apparatus equipped with liquid storing tank (12) allowing metal wire rod (10) to pass through the interior thereof and with mixing nozzle (14) for emitting a jet of high-pressure liquid toward the metal wire rod (10), disposed so as to allow the metal wire rod (10) to pass through the interior of the liquid storing tank (12). Further, the apparatus is equipped with high-pressure pump (16) for feeding a high-pressure liquid to the mixing nozzle (14) and with cyclone separator (20) as a slurry supply unit for feeding a slurry having a cleaning and polishing agent mixed in a liquid to the mixing nozzle (14). By means of the mixing nozzle (14), the cleaning and polishing agent slurry is entrained on the high-pressure liquid and spouted, so that the cleaning and polishing agent collides with scales on the surface of the metal wire rod (10) to thereby attain descaling. Still further, the apparatus is equipped with wheel filter (40) and cyclone separator (20) for recovering the liquid having the cleaning and polishing agent mixed therein and separating the same into the liquid and the cleaning and polishing agent. The cyclone separator (20) is adapted to not only feed the slurry-form cleaning and polishing agent to the mixing nozzle (14) but also separate the liquid component.
