PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relative displacement detection method or the like, usable repeatedly, capable of suppressing maintenance cost inexpensively, and detecting the displacement after experience of an earthquake or a strong wind. SOLUTION: This relative displacement recording device for recording an interval formed in accompany with relative displacement has a moving body storing body provide with a storage part for guiding a plurality of stored moving bodies downward following one of two members to be displaced relatively; the first regulation plate capable of dropping a moving body in some storage part following the other member; and the second regulation plate arranged over the first regulation plate at an interval capable of storing one moving body, capable of blocking a storage part becoming droppable by opening, and dropping a moving body from a storage part adjacent to the storage part becoming droppable. This detection method has a step for specifying the state of an interval formed in the moving body storing body by using the recording device, and a step for detecting the relative displacement based on the specified interval state.
