PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source lighting device in which there is no occurrence of non-lighting within a range in which a light source is in normal operation, in which there is no possibility that the light source is made exchanged before the end of the life of the light source, in which there is no need to make the light source repeat restarting lighting operation wherein the service life has been finished, and because of this, in which there is no danger such as breakage of the lamp, and provide a video display device using the light source lighting device. SOLUTION: A restarting operation count memory device 41 in lighting the latest K times to memorize the restarting operation counts until it is normally lighted at every lighting operation of the latest K times is installed. A total lighting time memory device 42 to memorize the total accumulated lighting time of the light source is installed. A restarting operation calculating means 31 is installed which calculates the restarting operation counts in lighting operation based on memory data of the restarting operation number memory device 41 in lighting the latest K times and based on memory data of the total lighting time memory device 42.
