PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method easily deciding a disk type or an application format. SOLUTION: A disk type and an application format applied to a recording process are decided by displaying interactive guide information in a display part, and discriminating the use mode of recorded data in a disk. Thus, only by sequentially answering questions displayed in the display part, a disk and an application format optimal for use are selected, and data recording is smoothly started while the optimal application format is applied to the optimal disk.
