An IPS LCD device includes a pixel electrode and a common electrode in each of an array of pixels. The pixel electrode and common electrode is of a comb-shape structure, wherein branch electrodes of the pixel electrode oppose respective branch electrodes of the common electrode. One of the pixel electrode and the common electrode includes control electrodes generating a radial electric field between the control electrodes and the other of the pixel electrode and common electrode.
